Following an off-the-board finish in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf at Santa Anita last November, Stay Hot closed out the season winning the GIII Cecil B. DeMille going a mile on turf at Del Mar Dec. 3. The Summer Front ridgling kicked off his sophomore campaign Feb. 17 at Santa Anita with a rallying head victory in the Baffle Stakes on the hillside turf course.

Eurton will be going for his second one-mile turf stakes win in six days at Santa Anita. On Sunday, Eurton won the China Doll Stakes with undefeated 3-year-old filly Medoro.

Stay Hot will have regular rider Antonio Fresu in the irons. He was purchased by Exline-Border Racing for $130,000 at the 2022 Fasig-Tipton Kentucky Select Yearling Sale.

Exline-Border campaigns Stay Hot in partnership with Burns Racing LLC, SAF Racing, The Estate of Brereton C. Jones and William Dan Hudock.

Lord Bullingdon is a two-time stakes winner for trainer Michael McCarthy but has twice been beaten by Stay Hot. By Lord Nelson, this will be his 3-year-old debut.

Lord Bullingdon’s stakes wins last year came in the Qatar Golden Mile on turf in November at Santa Anita and the Eddie Logan Stakes on Dec. 29, also at a mile on turf at Santa Anita.

Lord Bullingdon finished behind winner Stay Hot both in a one-mile maiden turf race at Santa Anita in October and again when fourth in the Cecil B. DeMille.

Campaigned by McCarthy and Colbart Stables, Lord Bullingdon was a $55,000 auction purchase last year. He will be ridden by Umberto Rispoli, who was aboard for both stakes wins.

Guy Named Joe returns to turf following a third on synthetic in the El Camino Real Derby at Golden Gate Feb. 10. Trained by Doug O’Neill, Guy Named Joe finished three lengths back of winner Endlessly when facing winners for the first time in the El Camino Real. Previously, the American Pharoah colt broke his maiden going a mile on turf Dec. 29 at Santa Anita.

Guy Named Joe was purchased for $100,000 by Dennis O’Neill, agent, at last year’s OBS June 2-Year-Olds and Horses of Racing Age Sale. He is campaigned by My Way Racing LLC, West Coast Stables LLC, Barbara Evenson, John O’Keefe and Timothy E. O’Keefe.

Guy Named Joe will have Santa Anita’s leading rider Juan Hernandez in the irons for the first time.
