Papa Dude’s Free Oaklawn Picks For Sunday 4/11/21

It’s the Sunday after the Arkansas Derby Day and there is a letdown for most of us bettors. But, the racing continues and let’s see what is out there that might make us some money. We’ll finish it off with a couple of sports plays.

Race 2,3,4,5:

I’m going with a .50 pick-4 involving this 4 race sequence. It will be a $24 wager.

The Bet: 2,6 / 4,7,8 / 2,7 / 5,7,8,11

Race 4: Allowance

My pick is the #2 Lulumaru from the Diodoro barn who is always a great trainer to bet on. This horse had been running at Santa Anita where she had two firsts, a second, and a third. In her last start at Oaklawn she actually finished 2nd but was moved down to third because of an incident in the stretch.

The Bet: $20 to win on #2

Race 6: Allowance

I really like the #1 Darren’s Fortune from the Tom Van Berg barn,.but not at 8/5. So, I’m going to try and beat him with the #5 Exemplar trained and owned by Steve Asmussen. He claimed this horse for $7500 in his last outing and immediately bumped him up to a starter allowance race. That means he likes the horse and thinks he can get him to run at a better level.

The Bet: $10 to win on #5

Race 8: Allowance

This shapes up as a 2-horse race between #2 Fouette from the Asmussen barn and #3 Founders Day from the Brad Cox stable. They both broke their maidens in their last starts and should both be on the lead in this one.

The Bet: $10 to win on #2

Race 9: Allowance

This is a really good race with some high quality runners. Robertino Diodoro has two entered here and I zeroed in on #5 Harper’s First Ride. He’s coming off a 4th place finish in the Essex about a month ago and the horses who beat him were very good. He has won 10 out of 19 starts which always catches my eye. This is a tough test but I think he is up to the task.

Papa Dude’s Sports Play of the Day

On this Sunday, let’s try an NHL game and then go with an NBA game to end the weekend.

My first pick today will be the New York Islanders on home ice against the New York Rangers. The Isles have one of the best records in the league and the Rangers are struggling to make the playoffs. There 2 teams always stage good battles with each other but I’ll take the home team.

The bet: $50 on the Islanders

In the NBA, the Miami Heat journey out to the great Northwest to take on the Portland Trailblazers. This game is rated as a close one and Portland is a 2.5 favorite. The trip West is a tough one for any visiting team no matter the sport and I think the Blazers should cover that spread.

The bet: Portland -2.5
