Papa Dude’s Free Oaklawn Picks For Friday 4/9/21

It’s Friday before Derby Day at Oaklawn Park. Tomorrow is 24 hours away so let’s take a look at the 10-race card for some winners and see if we can have some fun and cash some tickets. Also, we are going to continue with some sports bets and see if we can correctly pick a couple of NHL games.

Let’s start with Oaklawn:

Race 1: Claiming

My pick is the #5 Sugar Love from the Diodoro barn. It is never a mistake going with a horse from this barn and this one seems like a very good bet.The only problem is what will the final line be? If it stays around even money bet it.

The Bet: $20 to win on #5

Race 3,4,5: I’m going to play a 50-cent pick-3 on these races. In race 3, I will use the 1,2,5. In race 4 I will single the 3. And in race 5 I will go with 1,6,7,10. This will be a $6 wager.

The Bet: .50-cent pick 3: 1,2,5 / 3 / 1,6,7,10

Race 4: Maiden

My pick is the #3 Megatap trained by Steve Asmussen. He is coming off a solid 2nd place finish in his last start and with the natural progression should move up a spot in this one.

The Bet: $20 to win on #3

Race 7: Maiden

My pick is #2 Music App trained by Donnie K.Von Hemel.This barn has had a horrible meet and they are winless. I don’t see any way that they go the entire season without a victory. This filly finished 2nd in her debut last time out and I think she is good enough to win this one.

The Bet: $10 to win on #2

Race 9: Allowance

My pick is the #5 Sister Annie from the Brad Cox barn. The filly is coming off a 3rd place finish at this distance in a similar race. She set the pace before weakening through the drive. I’m hoping they will hold her back some and save her best for the stretch.

Papa Dude’s Sports Play of the Day

Today let’s take a stab at a couple of hockey games for Friday 4/9/21.  I’m an avid hockey fan and hockey games can be tricky but let’s see if we can nail a couple.

The Pittsburgh Penguins take on the New Jersey Devils in a road test. The Pens are a solid 3rd in their division and the Devils are struggling. I have no reservations that this is a winner for the Pens.

The Bet: $50 on Pittsburgh

The other game I’m looking at is Los Angeles at San Jose in a Western Division battle. The Sharks are favored but I like the Kings in this one.

The Bet: $50 on Los Angeles
