Azalea

The 3/5 favorite in the field of five, Boerne broke sharply from the far outside post 6 and was able to do everything her own way. Estilo Talentoso made a late run to get close, but Boerne and jockey Edgard Zayas were clearly the best.

BankruptonthebeachDon’t Get Khozy, and Compensate completed the order of finish. Addilyn was scratched.

The Juan Avila-trained Fed Biz filly won three straight to start 2020 before finishing second in last month’s Game Face Stakes for owner De Luca and Sons Stable.

Boerne returned $3.40 to win, $2.40 to place, and $2.10 to show. Estilo Talentoso brought back $3.20 to place and $2.80 to show, while Bankruptonthebeach paid $5.20 to show.

Carry Back

Double Crown got the job done as the 4/5 favorite for jockey Cristian Torres and trainer Kathy Ritvo, though With Verve gave a good challenge late.

The winner’s stablemate Ournationonparade was third ahead of the early pacesetters, Cajun Brother and Poe, who faded at the top of the stretch. Prince James was scratched.

Double Crown’s victory was his second straight, having won the 6 1/2-furlong Roar Stakes here in May for owner Reeves Thoroughbred Racing. The 3-year-old Bourbon Courage gelding’s lone defeat in 4 starts came in a local sloppy allowance effort in April, when he was second by 1 length.

Double Crown returned $3.60 to win, $2.60 to place, and $2.10 to show. With Verve brought back $2.80 to place and $2.20 to show, while Ournationonparade paid $2.80 to show.
