Oaklawn Report #3

Three Stars of the Week

– 1st Star: Take Charge Brandi (KY) – The 2 Year Old Filly Champion made her 2015 debut entertaining to say the least.  After taking a commanding lead on the turn in the Martha Washington, Take Charge Brandi looked as though she was going to cruise to the easiest of victories, but Sarah’s Sis had other ideas and almost caught the champion.  Perhaps jockey Jon Court gave a careless ride, or perhaps Take Charge Brandi just likes competition…either way she still won the race making it four in a row.  The Honeybee looks to be her next goal.

– 2nd Star: Street Strategy (KY) – We hadn’t seen Street Strategy since he finished off the board in last years Rebel Stakes, but boy did he make up for lost time with a huge allowance score on Friday.  Jockey Calvin Borel rode him to perfection, and the win has his connections thinking about races such as the Oaklawn Handicap.  The local older males were already looking strong, and they continue to get stronger every week.

– 3rd Star: Conquest Curlinate (ON) – This son of Curlin made his two turn debut on Saturday, and it was a good one!  After dropping well out of the race early on, Conquest Curlinate made a furious rally and zoomed by his competition winning by almost three lengths.  He had received a lot of hype from local at Oaklawn so it was nice to see the horse live up to such hype.  Will they try a stakes next time out?

Flop of the Week

Prosecution (KY) – There really wasn’t much of a “flopper” this week, but Prosecution best fits the bill.  He was bet down to favoritism in the Friday feature race, but never got going and finished a troubled fifth.  The race was perhaps a bit tough for him, so I expect a small class drop and a better performance next time out.
