New York Groove remains undefeated in Glorious Song Stakes

TORONTO, ON – Commonwealth New Era Racing’s fleet-footed filly New York Groove added the Glorious Song Stakes title to her perfect record with an impressive run in the $100,000 seven-furlong sprint early Sunday afternoon at Woodbine Racetrack.

New York Groove got the first call out of the gate and settled into stalking position as Ima Beast assumed command towards the inside and led the field of freshman fillies through a first quarter in :23.38 and half-mile in :46.05.

New York Groove made her move midway on the turn and waltzed away down the stretch to a 4-1/2-length victory in 1:22.56. Mom’s Red Lipstick advanced from her early trailing position along the rail down the backstretch and came on for second while Tortuga rallied to her outside and finished a close third.

Pablo Morales picked up the mount on the Michael Trombetta trainee, who shipped in from Presque Isle Downs where she had won her first three career starts under Antonio Gallardo.

“I rode against her before and she’s definitely disappeared on me even when my horses were finishing so I was really excited about riding her today,” said Morales. “She’s so calm and quiet and collected, she can do whatever. She breaks super good but then you ask her to relax and she just starts completely galloping around there. When you ask her, you can really feel her changing gears and taking off. She’s the real deal.

“She has a huge stride, I had seen it but now I have felt it and I like it.”

The Kentucky-bred Verrazano filly, winner of the Presque Isle Debutante Stakes last time out on Oct. 10, was the 3-5 favourite and returned $3.40 to win.
