ARCADIA, CA – LNJ Foxwoods’ Nasty got brave on the front end and kept her foes at bay late to wire Saturday’s $75,000 Lady of Shamrock Stakes at Santa Anita Park.
Breaking briskly from post 7 under Ricky Gonzalez as the 6/1 fourth choice, Nasty shot out to a lengthy advantage before posting opening fractions of :22.94, :46.20, and 1:10.50.
The rest of the field drew close nearing the far turn as Gonzalez gave her a breather, but that proved to be the difference-maker as Nasty pulled back away at the top of the stretch.
Counterparty Risk launched herself from last with a furious rally, but she just ran out of time as the Richard Baltas trainee crossed a head the better, completing the firm turf mile route in 1:34.22.

Counterparty Risk was a 1/2-length ahead of the 2/1 favorite Warren’s Showtime, while On Mars was 3/4 of a length further back in fourth.
Applecross, Moonhall Milly, Beguiled, Annangel, Last First Kiss, and Miss Extra completed the order of finish in the race restricted to 3-year-old fillies.
Nasty’s win was her first at the stakes level and improved the Street Sense filly’s overall record to 8-3-0-1 with $105,020 earned.
Nasty returned $15.80 to win, $7.20 to place, and $4.40 to show. Counterparty Risk brought back $4.20 to place and $3 to show, while Warren’s Showtime paid $2.80 to show.
