Morticia Crowned Queen in Coronation Cup

SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY – A strong field of eight other 3-year-old fillies were no match for Morticia in Monday’s $100,000 Coronation Cup at Saratoga Race Course.

Off sharply from the 8 pole as the 2/1 favorite, Morticia and jockey Jose Lezcano tracked outside the early pace set by No More Babies through a quick 1/4-mile in :21.42. Entering the far turn, Morticia began to eat into the 3/4-length lead, and by the exit had caught her foe.

Lezcano set Morticia down for the stretch drive, hitting the 1/2-mile marker in :43.99 before completing the 5 1/2-furlong trip in 1:01.27. She was 3/4 of a length ahead of a three-horse photo for second consisting of Epping ForestHidden Mystery, and Heavenly Score.
