NEW ORLEANS, LA – Susan Moulton’s Manny Wah broke through for his first stakes score, posting a 12/1 upset in Saturday’s $100,000 Duncan F. Kenner Stakes at Fair Grounds.
Manny Wah and jockey Miguel Mena took back to the rear of the seven-horse field as Just Might and Readyforprimetime duked it out up front.
Rallying strongly in the stretch while under a hand ride, Manny Wah cruised past the front-runners inside the final furlong.
The Wayne Catalano trainee completed the 5 1/2-furlong firm turf sprint in 1:02.38.
Just Might headed Readyforprimetime in second, 1 1/2 lengths clear of Fast Boat. Born Great, Real Money, and the 5/2 favorite Archidust completed the order of finish.
Went West was scratched.
Manny Wah’s win was his first since defeating optional claiming rivals at Churchill Downs in September 2019 and improved his overall record to 23-4-6-6. The 5-year-old intact son of Will Take Charge has now earned $501,888.
Manny Wah returned $27.60 to win, $9.40 to place, and $5 to show. Just Might brought back $5.80 to place and $3.60 to show, while Readyforprimetime paid $3.20 to show.
