Lucky Polly Noses Out Blue Mistress in Martha Washington; Givemetwenty Runs as Expected in Not Surprising

HALLANDALE BEACH, FL – In the first of two 3-year-old turf stakes at Gulfstream Park, Gary Barber’s Lucky Polly caught and narrowly defeated a game Blue Mistress to win Saturday’s $100,000 Martha Washington.

Lucky Polly was the 4/1 co-third choice under Emisael Jaramillo as she broke from the gate and sat second while Blue Mistress tore off to a near-double digit-length early lead.

That advantage disappeared heading into the far turn, but Blue Mistress had more than enough left to fight back. Lucky Polly fought valiantly to get up in the final jump for victory.

Tournesol was 1 length back in third. R Calli Kim, the 5/2 favorite YesterdayoncemoreFujairah, and Bankruptonthebeach completed the order of finish.

Onyx was scratched. Don’t Get Khozy and Sound Machine were Main Track Only entries.

The Lookin At Lucky filly’s win improved her record to 7-2-1-1 with $122,240 earned.

Lucky Polly returned $10.80 to win, $6.20 to place, and $4.20 to show. Blue Mistress brought back $16 to place and $7.40 to show, while Tournesol paid $3.40 to show.

Two races later on the card, the favored Givemetwenty ran as most bettors expected, winning Saturday’s $100,000 Not Surprising as the 8/5 favorite.

Under Jaramillo, the Ralph Nicks trainee stalked the early pace before presenting a challenge in the far turn. Under a drive in the stretch, he fought hard to get past a tough Monforte before winning by 1 1/2 lengths.

Aficionado was scratched. Ournationonparade was a Main Track Only entry.

Givemetwenty’s win improved his record to 6-3-1-0. The Declaration of War colt has earned $108,710 for owner/breeder Curtis Green.

Givemetwenty returned $5.20 to win, $3.40 to place, and $2.60 to show. Monforte brought back $4.40 to place and $3.20 to show, while Natural Power paid $3.40 to show.
