Race Recaps Let It Ride Mom Up Just In Time In G3 Whimsical April 28, 2018 Race Recaps Let It Ride Mom Up Just In Time In G3 Whimsical April 28, 2018 By: Curtis "Magic" Kalleward twitteremail Share: share on facebook share on twitter share on linkedin email this article TORONTO, ON – Live Oak Plantation’s Let It Ride Mom saved ground early before launching a strong bid in the stretch and got up just in time to win a thrilling edition of Saturday’s Grade 3 Whimsical Stakes at Woodbine. Unhurried from post 5 under Patrick Husbands, Let It Ride Mom settled in mid-pack while Jessica Krupnick posted opening fractions of :22.76 and :45.27. Moving two- and three-wide through the far turn, Let It Ride Mom made a determined effort to move forward down the stretch. Splitting between Jessica Krupnick to her inside and the favored Moonlit Promise to her outside, the Mark Casse trainee was able to get up just in time to poke her head in front at the wire in a final time of 1:08.96 for the 6-furlong event on the all-weather surface. “She left the gate running, and I didn’t want to lead because she’s shown in her form that she likes to run at horses,” Husbands said. “Down the lane, I was just looking for any little breakthrough, and it unfolded right and we got there. They’re two good fillies, and you can’t take anything away from them. Every time they come out, they give you 110%, but at the end of day, a win is a win, and I’m happy to win for Mark and the owners and everybody, so I’ll keep smiling.” The photo determined that the next three across the line were Moonlit Promise by a head over a late-rallying Scotty’s Model, while Jessica Krupnick faded late to miss third by a head. Silent Sonet took fifth, with Sky Flower heading Just Be Kind for sixth. Sugar Jones never threatened after hopping at the start and finished eighth. Let It Ride Mom’s win was her first graded stakes score in her first start since October 20, 2017. The 4-year-old daughter of Into Mischief improved her record to 11-4-3-0 with career earnings of $246,019. “She ran great, she’s a lovely filly,” said assistant trainer Kathryn Sullivan. “We’ve always really liked her and she just loves this track. She does great on this track so we’re really happy.” Let It Ride Mom returned $9.30 to win, $4.30 to place, and $3 to show. Moonlit Promise brought back $2.70 to place and $2.20 to show, while Scotty’s Model paid $2.50 to show.
