Juliet Foxtrot Wires Modesty

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, IL – Juddmonte Farms’ aptly-named homebred Juliet Foxtrot took the field gate to wire while never looking back en route to winning Saturday’s $150,000 Modesty Handicap (G3) at Arlington.

Horse Racing Picks

Breaking well from post 2 under Florent Geroux as the 9/5 second choice, Juliet Foxtrot asserted herself on the front end as she posted opening fractions of :23.91, :49.01, and 1:13.23 while the 3/2 favorite Simply Breathless applied occasional pressure. Shaking off that foe as she made the turn for home, Juliet Foxtrot was kept to a drive clear to the wire before crossing with a 1 3/4-length advantage. Her final time for the 1 3/16-mile event over the firm turf course was 1:54.00, just 0.80 seconds off of the track record that Reluctant Guest set in 1990.

Vexatious rallied in the stretch to take second by 3/4 of a length over Simply Breathless, who was unable to improve from her close stalking position. Remember Daisy took fourth over Na Pali Spirit, while behind her came Oh So TerribleMaroubraCascanueces, and Always Believe to complete the order of finish.

Juliet Foxtrot’s win was her third in as many North American starts after shipping to Cox from the European barn of Charles Hills. The 4-year-old daughter of Dansili improved her career mark to 11-4-0-0 with $179,081 earned – $162,708 which has been bankrolled stateside.

“She’s had two starts with us so far and we were always really high on her,” Cox said. “We think a lot of her and we think she’s got the talent to do some good things the rest of this year.”

Juliet Foxtrot returned $5.60 to win, $3.40 to place, and $2.60 to show. Vexatious brought back $5.20 to place and $3.60 to show, while Simply Breathless paid $2.20 to show.
