OKLAHOMA CITY, OK – Trainer Ken McPeek shipped in Envoutante for the $100,000 Remington Park Oaks (G3) in September and she cruised to victory. In the Oaks, the best Jeweled Princess could do was fifth, more than 11 lengths back. However, Friday night she returned to Remington Park and made amends for the earlier effort, racing along the rail to win the $75,000 She’s All In Stakes.
Jeweled Princess showed Friday night that the cooler weather was much more to her liking and not having to deal with Envoutante didn’t hurt either. Jeweled Princess advanced off the final turn under a sharp ride by leading jockey David Cabrera to score the She’s All In, by a head over a late closing Istan Council.
“It was a long haul in the heat when we brought her in for the Oaks earlier this year,” said McPeek’s assistant trainer Mike Kleier. “But she’s been giving every indication lately that she was moving forward. She showed her courage coming up that opening on the rail.”
Jeweled Princess was highly encouraged to make that move by leading rider David Cabrera. He chose that path, while jockey Sophie Doyle moved off the rail on the runner-up and got into a bit of trouble behind horses, losing ground to next-to-last before finding running room on the outside. She came running again with Istan Council but just missed getting up for the win, running out of real estate to catch the victor.
“She was not intimidated at all coming up the rail,” said Cabrera, who is on the verge of winning his third riding title in a row at Remington Park. “When I asked her to move through there, she answered the question for me. I have to thank the owners and trainer and my agent (Jose Santos Jr.) for this mount. He really hustles for me.”
The owners for Jeweled Princess, Walking L Thoroughbreds of The Woodlands, Texas, also own Envoutante.
“She’s won 4 of her last 6 starts,” said Scott Lyles, one of the owners of Jeweled Princess. “This has been a good couple of trips to Oklahoma City.”
They won $60,000 with Envoutante and then pocketed $45,000 with Jeweled Princess on Friday. A 3-year-old filly by Cairo Prince, out of the Scat Daddy mare Jersey Jules, Jeweled Princess improved to 13 starts, 4 wins, 3 seconds and 2 thirds and $212,276 in her bankroll. Jeweled Princess was bred in Kentucky by Mary Reynolds.
Jeweled Princess chased interior fractions set by Simple Pleasure of :24.03 for the first 1/4-mile, :47.39 for the 1/2-mile and 1:11.84 for the first 6 furlongs. Jeweled Princess took over at the top of the stretch and finished the 1 mile 70-yard race in 1:38.43 for the mile and a final time of 1:42.85 over a fast track.
At 5/1 odds, Jeweled Princess paid $12 to win, $5.80 to place and $3.40 to show. Istan Council was sent off at 5/2 odds and finished 1 1/4 lengths ahead of third-place finisher Kim K (6/1). The 8/5 wagering favorite, Gold Standard, who had beaten Istan Council the last time they faced each other, could do no better than fifth in the six-horse field. Rounding out the finish, Casual was fourth while pacesetting Simple Pleasure was last.
The She’s All In is named after the Oklahoma-bred mare and member of the Oklahoma Horse Racing Hall of Fame at Remington Park, who compiled over $1 million in her racing career.
