ARCADIA, CA – Gary Barber’s Laura’s Light is back on turf and ready to run against eight other sophomore fillies in Saturday’s $100,000 Honeymoon Stakes (G3) at Santa Anita Park.
After she won her debut stylishly over Golden Gate Fields’ synthetic surface, Barber privately purchased Laura’s Light and sent her to Peter Miller’s barn in southern California. She was a game runner-up next out in the Jimmy Durante Stakes (G3), then wired the field in the Blue Norther Stakes a month later. She won the Sweet Life Stakes (G3) while sprinting on the local lawn to kick off 2020 but could not find similar success in the Bourbonette Oaks on the Turfway Park synthetic course.
Parkour steps up to the graded ranks after a dominating 3 1/4-length gate-to-wire performance against allowance/optional claiming rivals here on March 22. Prior to that, she was fourth in the Blue Norther, her first start after breaking her maiden. Out of the Speightstown mare Gemswick Park, Parkour is a half-sister to the thrice stakes-placed mare Tapped.
The French-bred Stela Star put together back-to-back wins, including the Killavullan Stakes (G3), to end 2019 while running in Europe. Privately purchased by Hronis Racing and sent to John Sadler, her North American debut was a narrow 1/2-length defeat in the China Doll Stakes while going 1 mile over this course. The meet’s leading rider Flavien Prat picks up the mount.
