Run on the turf, the Maker’s 46 Mile will go as the ninth race on Friday’s 10-race program with a 5:30 p.m. ET post time. First post time Friday is 1:05 p.m. Trained by Brian Lynch, Heart to Heart “likes to play catch me if you can,” according to his conditioner, and the 5-year-son of English Channel and jockey Julien Leparoux figure to have company early in Heart to Heart’s bid for his first Grade 1 win. Heart to Heart will break from post position three. Also in the field is Ken and Sarah Ramsey’s Shining Copper, who has been the pacesetter in his past five starts, all Grade 1 contests going more than a mile. Trained by Chad Brown, Shining Copper was second in the Gulfstream Park Turf Handicap in his most recent start on Feb. 6. Paco Lopez will ride Shining Copper and break from post position seven. Another Grade 1-placed entrant in the field is Tourist, trained by Bill Mott. Owned by WinStar Farm, Wachtel Stable and Gary Barber, Tourist will make his 2016 debut after finishing eighth in last year’s Breeders’ Cup Mile (G1) at Keeneland. Prior to the Breeders’ Cup, Tourist had finished third, beaten a neck, in the $1 million Shadwell Turf Mile (G1) here. Jose Lezcano has the mount on Tourist and will break from post position four. One filly will challenge the boys in the race. Sagamore Farm, Allen Rosenblum and The Club Racing LLC’s Miss Temple City will make her first start since finishing second in the Queen Elizabeth II Challenge Cup (G1) Presented by Lane’s End here in October. Runner-up in the Appalachian (G3) Presented by Japan Racing Association here last spring, Miss Temple City recorded her only off-the-board finish when running fourth in the Group 1 Coronation at Royal Ascot last June. Miss Temple City is believed to be the first filly to contest the Maker’s 46 Mile or its predecessor, the Maker’s Mark Mile (G1). Trained by Graham Motion, Miss Temple City will break from post position two and be ridden by Drayden Van Dyke. The field for the Maker’s 46 Mile, with rider and weight from the inside, is: Are You Kidding Me (James Graham, 118 pounds), Miss Temple City (Van Dyke, 113), Heart to Heart (Leparoux, 120), Tourist (Lezcano, 118), Dac (Sophie Doyle, 118), Conquest Typhoon (Joe Bravo, 118), Shining Copper (Lopez, 118), Itsaknockout (Luis Saez, 118) and Reload(Javier Castellano, 118).
