Nine races featuring a total of 80 horses will greet those wishing to make their first wagers at Golden Gate Fields since the track temporarily closed for live racing on April 2 in response to the pandemic. Along with five events on the synthetic Tapeta main course, four will be held on the infield turf course for the first time since last September.

Though there is a Pick 6 carryover of $398,294 that will provide the base for the sequence’s pool, experts predict that new money bet into the pool will exceed $2 million. Golden Gate is one of four tracks scheduled to hold live racing on Thursday, with a local first post of 12:45 PM Pacific and its final race scheduled for 4:42 PM.

Like all other tracks currently operating stateside, Golden Gate will operate without spectators or any nonessential staff. The meet is scheduled to run through June 14, with closing day featuring the rescheduled $250,000 San Francisco Mile (G3) on turf.
