Going Global Unstoppable In Del Mar Oaks

DEL MAR, CA – Trainer Phil D’Amato’s much-heralded Going Global stretched back out to 9 panels with aplomb Saturday, proving unstoppable as she drove home between rivals late to win the $300,000 Del Mar Oaks (G1).

Going Global was the 7/5 favorite in the field of nine 3-year-old fillies as she broke from post 3 under Flavien Prat and settled into a mid-pack stalking position while Javanica posted opening fractions of :24.35, :48.66, and 1:13.59.

After stalking early, 69/1 longshot Feathers made a bid outside Javanica at the top of the stretch, but Prat had Going Global tipping out three-wide behind them and soon took the lead.

Once she took command near the 3/16 pole, Going Global kept clear before completing the 1 1/8-mile firm turf route in 1:48.91, crossing 1 length clear of California-bred Closing Remarks.

“What a nice filly,” Prat said. “I was up a little closer today because the pace was slow early, but she was always traveling well so I wasn’t worried. I had plenty of horse, I was just waiting to find a spot to run. When I asked her, she really got going.”

East coast invader Fluffy Socks made a mild bid from near the rear and finished 3/4 of a length behind Closing Remarks in third.

Feathers, Madone, Javanica, Ivy League, Soaring Sky, and an eased Tetragonal completed the order of finish.

Going Global’s win was her sixth in her past 7 starts, with her lone defeat coming as a runner-up finish to Madone in the local 1-mile San Clemente Stakes (G2). The Irish-bred Mehmas filly’s career mark now stands at 10-6-1-0 with $468,972 earned for co-owners CYBT, Michael Dubb, Saul Gevertz, Michael Nentwig, and Ray Pagano.

“We got a dream ride there and this filly showed that she’s just the class of the field against a really good bunch of horses,” D’Amato said. “She showed her turn of foot and got it done. She’s just special. She takes on every challenge we give her and keeps on going.”

Going Global returned $4.80 to win, $3 to place, and $2.40 to show. Closing Remarks brought back $5.40 to place and $3.40 to show. Fluffy Socks paid $2.80 to show.
