OLDSMAR, FL – Mellon Patch’s Feeling Mischief drew off late to capture Saturday’s $100,000 Sandpiper Stakes at Tampa Bay Downs.
Feeling Mischief broke from post 5 under Jesus Castanon as the 3/1 favorite and settled into a stalking position in second well behind early leader Briella, who posted opening fractions of :22.26 and :44.74.
After ranging up in hand through the far turn, Feeling Mischief came to terms with the pacesetter at the top of the stretch.
The Michael Campbell trainee kicked clear to win the 6-furlong fast dirt sprint by 2 lengths in 1:09.76.
Gulf Coast rallied in the stretch to take second by 1 1/4 lengths over Little Nesso.
Briella, Battle Cry, Special Princess, Wholebodemeister, You Never Call, Striking Chrome, Molly’s Angel, and Hara completed the order of finish.
Nurse Judy and Sister Aurora were both veterinarian scratches from the race restricted to juvenile fillies.

Feeling Mischief’s win came in her stakes debut and improved her overall record to 3-2-0-1. The Into Mischief filly has earned $61,100 to date.
Feeling Mischief returned $8 to win, $4.40 to place, and $3 to show. Gulf Coast brought back $3.80 to place and $3.60 to show, while Little Nesso paid $6.60 to show.
