Fear The Cowboy Runs Away in $200,000 Governor’s Stakes

NEW CUMBERLAND, WV – Fear The Cowboy struck plenty of fear into his foes on his way to winning Saturday’s $200,000 Governor’s Cup at Mountaineer Racetrack.

The 5-year-old son of Cowboy Cal completed the 1 1/16-mile main track race in 1:44.62.

Red Dragon Tattoo led through early fractions of :23.96 and :48.24 before Matt King Coal temporarily took over. Set down for the stretch run under jockey Jesus Rios, Fear The Cowboy took the lead and never looked back, crossing the wire 2 lengths ahead of Iron Fist.

Matt King Coal held on for third as the tepid 3/1 favorite. Page McKenney was 1/2 lengths ahead of Madefromlucky, with The Player, Red Dragon Tattoo, Fellowship, and Bright Blue completing the order of finish.
