With Tom Marquand aboard for trainer William Haggas, Alenquer trailed early in the field of six 3-year-olds, then tipped out in the stretch and flew past his rivals to take the lead with a furlong remaining before winning the 1 1/2-mile event over heavy going by 1 1/2 lengths. After winning 1 of 2 starts as a juvenile, the French-bred Adlerflug colt has won both 2021 tries following the 1 1/4-mile Bet365 Classic Trial (G3) at Sandown April 23.

“On this ground, saving energy is key and I was really happy with him on the way round,” Marquand said. “With the rails the way they were, it actually helped closing and the ground opened beautifully at the 3-furlong pole. I had plenty of horse to go and Alenquer made my life easy relaxing like that.”

Taman Bay was second over Title, while behind them came The Mediterranean, early leader Gear Up, and Belloccio to complete the order of finish. Gloucestershire and Yibir scratched.

Alenquer returned $4.20 to win and $2.02 to place. Tasman Bay brought back $6 to place. Title paid $3 to place.
