Fast Scene Arrives Quickest in My Dear

TORONTO, ON – Trainer Tim Hamm’s speedy pupil Fast Scene took the field gate to wire and left them in her dust in Saturday’s $100,000 My Dear Stakes for juvenile fillies at Woodbine.

Breaking from post 4 under Rafael Hernandez as the even-money favorite, Fast Scene was a half-step slow into stride but soon rushed up to lead while running between Copper Gem to her inside and Bayerly Seen to her outside. After posting an opening 1/4-mile in :21.80, Fast Scene began to slowly pull away in the far turn.

Straightening for home with a sizeable advantage, Fast Scene continued to run strongly while only under mild urging. The bettors’ choice crossed with a 4-length advantage in a final time of 1:05.15 for the 5 1/2-furlong sprint over the fast synthetic main track.

“She was looking at the other horse next to her, but as soon as she put her feet on the ground, she just picked it up,” Hernandez said. “She was awesome, unbelievable today.”

Justleaveitalone rallied down the middle of the lane to take second by 2 1/2 lengths over a fading Copper Gem, with Saratoga Vision behind them in fourth. Marva headed The Good Witch for fifth, while behind them came a spent Bayerly Seen, Reiterate, and Nite Brite to complete the order of finish.

Fast Scene’s win was her second in as many career starts, having won her debut here on June 15 while going 5 furlongs on the main track. The daughter of Fast Anna has now earned $77,000 to date for co-owners Three Chimneys Farm (who also bred her) and Blazing Meadows Farm.

“We break a lot of horses there in Ocala and we put them on a program,” said assistant trainer Scooter Davis. “We have a lot of babies there, but she showed a lot of talent right from the get-go. Scott Spieth worked her at Presque Isle and the first thing he said was, ‘This filly has a good mind on her.’ She’s fast, but we thought even if she wasn’t on the lead, she could rate and go on. She’s got a lot of ability, for sure. Hopefully, we’ll come back here; she seems to like it.”

Fast Scene returned $4.20 to win, $2.70 to place, and $2.50 to show. Justleaveitalone brought back $6.40 to place and $5.60 to show, while Copper Gem paid $10.40 to show.
