Fashionably Fast Repeats In Tiznow

ARCADIA, CA – Harris Farms homebred Fashionably Fast repeated last year’s similar success against his fellow Cal-breds in Sunday’s $100,000 Tiznow Stakes at Santa Anita Park.

Fashionably Fast was the 4/5 favorite under Tiago Pereira in the field of five older males. The pacesetting Desmond Doss grew leg-weary in the late stages, allowing the stalking Fashionably Fast to grind his way up to complete the fast dirt mile route first in 1:37.14.

“This horse has so much heart, mucho corazon!” Pereira said. “None of these races are easy, but he tries so hard.  Today, we were wide going into the first turn, but he’s got so much speed and I didn’t want to take too much hold of him. He relaxed a little down the backside, and when we were between (Desmond Doss) and (Brandothebartender), he gave me everything.”

Margot’s Boy and Surfing Star completed the order of finish.

Fashionably Fast’s win improved the 6-year-old Lucky Pulpit gelding’s record to 20-8-4-3 with $568,245 earned.

“He doesn’t make (anything) easy, he’s just a very game horse,” Pederson said. “I almost feel more confident when he’s tucked in a battle like that than when he’s out there by himself, but then at that point, you either win or you lose and you just hope for the best. Good horses make it easy.”

Fashionably Fast returned $3.80 to win, $2.40 to place, and $2.10 to show. Desmond Doss brought back $3 to place and $2.10 to show. Brandothebartender paid $2.10 to show.
