BERKELEY, CA – Bonne Chance Farm and Stud R D I’s Editore successfully defended his title on Saturday in the Grade 3, $100,000 Berkeley Handicap at Golden Gate Fields.

Breaking from post 9 under Brice Blanc as the 3-1 favorite, Editore sat off the pace in midpack while Black Tie Event posted opening fractions of :23.46, :47.78, and 1:11.76. Angling out to run five-wide off the far turn, Editore drove hard to the front and was able to just neck out the score over Camino Del Paraiso and Flamboyant in an exciting photo finish. The Paulo Lobo trainee’s victory came in a final time of 1:42.94 for the 8 1/2-furlong event over the fast all weather track.

G. G. Ryder nosed out Bella Luma for fourth, while More Power to HimMontu, and a spent Black Tie Event followed close behind. Fawree and Mithqaal completed the order of finish. Gabo’s Macondo and Engram were scratched.

Editore’s win was his first of the year and improved the Brazilian-bred’s overall record to 21-5-4-3. The 6-year-old gelded son of Redattore has now earned $287,905 in his career.

Editore returned $8.20 to win, $4.40 to place, and $3.60 to show. Camina Del Paraiso brought back $5.60 to place and $3.60 to show, while Flamboyant paid $3.80 to show.
