Edgeway Impressive in Carousel

HOT SPRINGS, AR – Hronis Racing’s Edgeway was the slight 6/5 second choice behind even-money favorite Frank’s Rockette, but the odds didn’t matter at the finish with Edgeway holding a 3/4-length advantage at the wire.

The compact field was well-bunched through the opening 1/4 in :22 2/5 before Edgeway, ridden by Joel Rosario, began to make her move after a 1/2-mile in :46.

Frank’s Rockette made a sweeping move around the turn for home, but could not get to the winner, who completed the 6 furlongs in 1:10 over a fast track. Casual closed from last for third.

“I had a good draw on the outside,” Rosario said. “She broke really well. When two horses came inside me, I just kind of let them go for a little bit so I could have somebody to follow. I had a lot of confidence in her. She was running really good. She was moving really well. I rode her like I thought she was the best horse in the race.”

Edgeway, a 4-year-old Competitive Edge filly trained by John Sadler, has now won 4 of 6 starts and earned $307,200 after her first career stakes victory. She returned $4.60, $2.60, and $2.10.

“I was really pleased (with the draw) when I saw we were outside of the favorite, meaning we could lay off her if we went that way or, one case, maybe go forward if it went that way,” Sadler said. “Very good draw. That was a really nice field, so that’s a big win for her. She’s stakes-placed several times. For her to win a really good stake like that is very important. She’s a nice, quality filly, there’s no doubt about that.”
