LAUREL, MD – Larry Pratt and Dave Alden’s Doctor Mounty took the field gate to wire in Monday’s $100,000 Henry S. Clark Stakes at Laurel Park.
Doctor Mounty broke from the rail under Forest Boyce as the 2/1 second choice and posted opening fractions of :25.18, :50.41, and 1:14.49. The Shug McGaughey trainee drifted in the stretch but held on to prevail by 1 3/4 lengths, completing the 1 1/16-mile good turf route in 1:44.98.
Ninety One Assault, the 3/2 favorite Serve the King, O Dionysus, Talk Or Listen, Taxable Goods, and Gunnison completed the order of finish.
Abiding Star, Irish Strait, and Split the Wickets were scratched.
Doctor Mounty’s win was his first of the year and improved his record to 35-9-5-5. The 7-year-old son of Street Sense has now earned $572,228.
Doctor Mounty returned $6 to win, $4 to place, and $2.60 to show. Ninety One Assault brought back $4.20 to place and $2.40 to show, while Serve the King paid $2.40 to show.
