Crazy Beautiful Rebounds in Summertime Oaks

Crazy Beautiful and jockey Mike Smith sat back and saved ground in the scratch-shortened field of 3-year-old fillies while Lady Aces set the early pace from the rail.

Given her cue near the 1/4 pole, Crazy Beautiful tipped out to rally three-wide past the 4/5 favorite Soothsay and a fading Lady Aces.

The Kenny McPeek ultimately crossed 1 3/4 lengths the best, completing the 1 1/16-mile fast dirt route in 1:43.85.

“She broke really well,” Smith said. “I noticed in the Kentucky Oaks, she got slammed leaving there, never really giving her the chance to run. So, I knew a better break and the way she’s bred with Liam’s Map, Indian Charlie mare, she has some speed if you needed it. For a minute there, I thought about going to the lead, but they went up there and entertained themselves enough to where I felt confident to get back.”

Soothsay, the 4/5 favorite, took second by 1 3/4 lengths over Lady Aces. Plum Sexy was eased across the wire to complete the order of finish.

Absolute Scenes scratched.

Crazy Beautiful’s win was her second at the graded stakes ranks following the Gulfstream Park Oaks (G2) a start prior to the Kentucky Oaks. The Liam’s Pride filly’s record improved to 9-4-3-0 with $520,865 earned.

Crazy Beautiful returned $4.60 to win and $2.10 to place. Soothsay brought back $2.10 to place. There was no show betting.
