Cordiality Wires Swingtime

ARCADIA, CA – As she’s wont to do, Cordiality took the field on a merry-go-round run from gate to wire in Saturday’s $70,000 Swingtime Stakes at Santa Anita Park.

Cordiality was the 2/1 second choice as she broke from post 4 under Drayden Van Dyke and went straight to the lead, where she ran unopposed through opening fractions of :23.00, :46.51, and 1:10.29.

Muchly made a two-wide bid in the far turn, but Cordiality dug in deep and repelled her rival, running gamely in the stretch before crossing 3/4 of a length clear.

The Tim Yakteen trainee completed the firm mile-long turf route in 1:34.07.

“She is just such a professional mare,” Yakteen said. “I was so confident when she came down in the paddock and she was just so professional.”

Muchly, Colonial CreedSedamarMeal Ticket, and Donut Girl finished in the same order that they ran throughout the entire event that was restricted to female non-winners of an open company stakes.

Cordiality’s win was her second of the year following the Osunitas Stakes against her fellow California-breds and improved her overall record to 33-12-7-3. The 7-year-old Papa Clem mare has now earned $620,815 for owner Donnie Crevier.

“She’s a 7-year-old with just a bank of races underneath her,” Yakteen said. “It’s always nice when you give these horses time. She’s a great mare.”

Cordiality returned $6.60 to win, $3.80 to place, and $2.80 to show. Muchly brought back $5.80 to place and $3.60 to show, while Colonial Creed paid $3.60 to show.
