LAUREL, MD – Robert Bone’s Completed Pass overcame clipping heels in the far turn to still score the victory in Monday’s $100,000 Laurel Dash Stakes at Laurel Park.
The 5/2 favorite under Angel Cruz, Completed Pass was ranging up in the far turn but ran into a wall of horses and ran out of room, clipping the back heels of Oldies But Goodies. He recovered and swept to the lead in mid-stretch before winning the 5 1/2-furlong good turf sprint by 3/4 of a length in a final time of 1:04.41.
So Street, Love You Much, Lemon Zip, Joseph, the 4/5 favorite Wet Your Whistle, Missin the Big Dog, Singanothersong, Oldies But Goodies, and Tempt Me Twice completed the order of finish.
The Claudio Gonzalez-trained Completed Pass won his second career stakes following last year’s Jim McKay Turf Sprint at Pimlico. The 6-year-old Indiana-bred Pass Rush gelding now carries a record of 18-8-3-2 with $318,320 earned.
Completed Pass returned $7 to win, $4.20 to place, and $3.20 to show. So Street brought back $13.40 to place and $10 to show, while Love You Much paid $7.20 to show.
