The track press release:

Eight 2-year-old fillies will match strides Monday in the Labor Day feature at Del Mar – the 30th edition of the Generous Portion Stakes. The California-bred offering is contested at six furlongs and carries a $125,000 purse.

The headliner, which goes as Race 9 on the 10-race card, has an undercard stakes alongside, the $100,000 Tranquility Lake, an overnight stakes that will be Race 7 on the day.

Likely favorite in the Generous Portion is George Krikorian’s homebred Big Hopes, a daughter of Mr. Big who won her lone start here on August 13 when she came from far back to just get up in the last jump and win by a head in a straight maiden race. Del Mar’s leading rider, Juan Hernandez, was aboard her that day and trainer John Sadler has named him right back for the Monday test.

Her chief rival may be Jaime Renella’s Chismosa, a two-time starter and two-time winner, including the CTBA Stakes at Del Mar on August 7 in her most recent try. The filly by Clubhoue Ride is trained by Rafael DeLeon and will be ridden by Edgar Payeras, who was up for her stakes tally.

Topping the one-mile Tranquility Lake is Downstream Racing’s Samurai Charm, an eight-time winner for trainer Jeff Metz. The daughter of First Samurai is trained by Peter Miller and will be ridden Monday by Ramon Vazquez.

Here are the fields for the two event from the rail out with riders and morning line odds:

Generous Portion: Phil Lebherz’s Smiling Lady (Ricky Gonzalez, 15-1); Repole Stable’s Uncontrollable (Joe Bravo, 3-1); Brown, Klein or Lebherz’s Yo Yo Mama (Abel Cedillo, 12-1); Lovingier or Griffin Stables’ E Z Pharis (Hector Berrios, 8-1); Reddam Racing’s Fun Money (Mario Gutierrez, 101); Big Hopes (2-1); LNJ Foxwoods’ Electric Lettuce (Armando Ayuso, 10-1), and Chismosa (5/12).

Tranquility Lake: Thor-bred Stables’ Ever Smart (Ryan Curatolo, 12-1); Sones or Sones’ Lisette (Victor Epinoza, 8-1); Red Barons Barn or Vaya Con Suerte’s Teddy’s Barino (Mike Smith, 5/2); Kelly or Wiltz’s Velvet Slippers (Hernandez, 5/2); Jeff Jacobs’ La Castiglione (Hanna Leahey, 12-1); Samurai Charm (2-1), and Ali Schlaich Stables and Gatto Racing’s Bye Bye Bertie (Drayden Van Dyke, 6-1).

First post for the Labor Day card is 1 p.m.
