ARCADIA, CA – CYBT, Sterling Stables, and Michael Nentwig’s Irish-bred Cathkin Peak rallied late to win Sunday’s $75,000 Eddie Logan Stakes at Santa Anita Park.
Cathkin Peak broke from post 5 under Flavien Prat at 4/1 odds and settled near the rear of the seven-horse field of juvenile males.
Commander Khai went to the lead and posted relatively uncontested opening fractions of :22.59, :45.74, and 1:09.51.
Tipped out at the top of the stretch to run wide and in the clear, Cathkin Peak rallied to the lead in the late stages before crossing a length clear.
The Phil D’Amato trainee completed the firm turf mile route in 1:33.80.

Commander Khai remained 2 3/4 lengths clear of Beer Can Man in third. Big Fish, Party Game, and Barrister Tom completed the order of finish.
Ebeko, the 5/2 favorite, broke down near the 3/16 pole after trailing throughout and was reportedly euthanized.
Cathkin Peak’s win followed a maiden-breaking score going 1 mile over the Del Mar lawn in his North American debut. The Alhebayeb gelding, who finished fourth in a 5-furlong sprint in his career unveiling overseas, has now earned $81,672.
“He’s such a neat horse,” D’Amato said. “Ever since he arrived, he hasn’t done anything wrong and he keeps getting better and better. Flavien seems to fit him like a glove.”
Cathkin Peak returned $10.40 to win, $5 to place, and $3.40 to show. Commander Khai brought back $5.40 to place and $3.60 to show, while Beer Can Man paid $3 to show.
