Race Recaps Casse’s Dream Weekend Continues in Queenston May 19, 2019 Race Recaps Casse’s Dream Weekend Continues in Queenston May 19, 2019 By: Curtis "Magic" Kalleward twitteremail Share: share on facebook share on twitter share on linkedin email this article TORONTO, ON – Trainer Mark Casse’s dream weekend didn’t end with War of Will’s Preakness Stakes (G1) victory. On Sunday, his two trainees Federal Law and My Silencer finished a hard-fought first and second in the $125,000 Queenston Stakes for Ontario-breds at Woodbine. Breaking from the rail under Gary Boulanger at 7/2 odds, Federal Law was slow into stride while Corduroy Road posted opening fractions of :22.85 and :45.29. Having gathered himself after the poor beginning, Federal Law was soon right behind the heels of the pacesetter and had to settle while waiting for room to appear. His 7/5 favored stablemate, meanwhile, made a three-wide bid for the lead midway through the far turn, and when he straightened for home, My Silencer had his nose in front. Full of run when he exited the turn but having nowhere to go, Federal Law forced himself into a small opening between Corduroy Road and Souper Success once the latter began to fall off. Finally able to unleash his pent-up energy, Federal Law scooted quickly past his other foes and collared My Silencer in deep stretch. Continuing to surge through to the wire, he crossed with a neck advantage in a final time of 1:23.05 for the 7-furlong sprint over the fast all weather main track. My Silencer was a 1/2-length ahead of a late-running Dun Drum for second to give Casse the exacta, which paid $24.90 for a $2 bet. Souper Success and Corduroy Road faded in the stretch before completing the order of finish. Federal Law’s win was his first of 2019 and improved his overall record to 10-3-3-1 with $147,843 earned. The 3-year-old gelded son of Scat Daddy made his first four career starts in Europe before making his North American debut in last year’s Summer Stakes (G1), where he finished 11th. Federal Law returned $9.70 to win, $3.80 to place, and $2.70 to show. My Silencer brought back $3.10 to place and $2.20 to show, while Dun Drum paid $2.40 to show.
