Bronx Beauty Upsets Penn Ladies Dash

GRANTVILLE, PA – After closely shadowing the 4/5 favorite through suicide fractions, 2W Stables’ Bronx Beauty cleared away in the stretch run to pull the 11/1 upset in Saturday’s $100,000 Penn Ladies Dash Stakes at Penn National.

Breaking from post 6 under Manny Franco, Bronx Beauty settled just off of the bettors’ choice Ms Locust Point through opening fractions of :21.17 and :43.52. Coming level with the pacesetter at the top of the stretch, the Anthony Margotta, Jr., trainee slowly inched away from Ms Locust Point with each step. Clearing away near the 1/16 pole, Bronx Beauty crossed with a 1 1/2-length advantage in a final time of 1:08.57 for the 6-furlong sprint over the fast main track. The time was 0.14 seconds off of the track record that Edzactly set on June 4, 2016.

Though unable to keep up with the winner after running so fast initially, Ms Locust Point was able to keep a hold onto second by 3/4 of a length over Zipper’s Hero. Behind her came Last True Love, with Yorkiepoo PrincessCrabcakes, and a misfiring Cairenn completing the order of finish.

I’ll Take the Cake was a trainer scratch, opting instead to run in the Susquehanna Stakes two races later on the card, where she finished eighth.

Belmont Stakes Picks

Bronx Beauty’s win was her fourth in as many career starts at Penn National, having broken her maiden on debut on July 13, 2017, before winning a pair of Pennyslvania-bred stakes in 2017 and 2018. The 4-year-old daughter of Liaison now sports a record of 11-6-0-0 with $332,570 earned.

Bronx Beauty returned $24.20 to win, $8.60 to place, and $4.20 to show. Ms Locust Point brought back $2.80 to place and $2.40 to show, while Zipper’s Hero paid $5.20 to show.
