Breeders’ Cup Predictions #4

Breeders’ Cup Predictions #4

Changes this week: The Juvenile

The Classic – Shared Belief – To me Saturday’s Awesome Again was his best race yet!  I also loved the performance by Tonalist in the Jockey Club Gold Cup, but Shared Belief is still the pick.

The Mile – Wise Dan – Runs this weekend at Keeneland in what is sure to be a spectacle like always!  We’ll see if he can continue down the path of a Breeders Cup Mile triple.

The Distaff – Close Hatches – Beholder came back this week and was triumphant, but perhaps a bit short.  We all know it’s going to be tough for Close Hatches to turn the tables, but she’s never been better.  Like Wise Dan, Close Hatches also runs this weekend.

The Turf – The Grey Gatsby – Earned a tremendous win three weeks ago which obviously makes me feel even stronger about him. Hoping he makes the trip to Santa Anita more than ever now!

The Sprint – Secret Circle – He FINALLY returns this Saturday at Santa Anita!  It will be a very critical race to monitor, but I won’t change my pick until I see what he does.

The Juvenile – American Pharoah – That was a breath taking performance in the FrontRunner, and now he is the overwhelming favorite to win this race.  We’ll see if the Champagne can produce any challengers for him this weekend.

The Turf Sprint – Reneesgotzip – You have to pick a horse with experience on the down hill turf course in this race, so that’s why I’ve picked Reneesgotzip for now. Finished 3rd in 2012 and 2nd in 2013…no Mizdirection to contend with this year so third time could be a charm.

The Filly and Mare Sprint – Midnight Lucky – I changed to her really because it was just a question of talent level with Stonetastic. The health of Midnight Lucky is the only question mark.

The Filly and Mare Turf – Dank – If she comes back to defend her title I think she’s a clear standout in this group. Not considering others unless she doesn’t come over.

The Juvenile Fillies – Cavorting – Looks to be the most talented of the group so far, but I don’t think there is a big gap between her and the others. The key prep for her will be this weekend, and she’s up against a super tough field.

The Juvenile Fillies Turf – Malabar – I’ve learned my lesson picking American horses in the Juvenile turf races. Don’t know who is coming, but will be landing on a Euro horse for sure.

The Dirt Mile – Goldencents – It looks like the turf experiment has been but on hold with Goldencents, and this weekends Santa Anita Sprint is the race he’ll be targeting. Easily the favorite to repeat…

The Juvenile Turf – Aktabantay – Much like my pick of Malabar, I’m going with a Euro in this race no matter what happens.
