Blamed Cruises To Easy Victory In $200,000 Sunland Park Oaks

SUNLAND PARK, NM – Cleber J. Massey’s Blamed rewarded the many supporters who made her the heavy 2/5 betting favorite, cruising home to an easy victory in Sunday’s $200,000 Sunland Park Oaks.

Breaking from post 4 under Ken Tohill, Blamed sat just behind early leader Kram through opening splits of :23.76, :47.74, and 1:11.62. Blamed drew even with Kram midway through the far turn before blowing past her foe like she was standing still. The Joel Marr trainee drew off under light urging to win the 1 1/16-mile main track event by 6 1/4 lengths in a final time of 1:43.32.

Kram was easily second-best in the short field, finishing 8 lengths ahead of Charge Back, with Bella Be Ready and Exotic Beauty completing the order of finish.

The Sunland Park Oaks is part of the Road to the 2018 Kentucky Oaks prep race season. Blamed earned 50 points for the win, with Kram receiving 20 for second, Charge Back 10 for third, and Bella Be Ready 5 for fourth.

Blamed has enjoyed a stellar early career on the southwest circuit, earning $241,260 to date. After finishing second on debut at Zia Park last September, the daughter of Blame has now rolled off five consecutive wins, the most recent three coming at Sunland Park in stakes events.

Blamed returned $2.80 to win and $2.10 to place, while Kram paid $3 to place. There was no show betting.
