Kentucky Derby Blame Game: Can the Son of Blame Be a Triple Crown Horse? January 22, 2015 Kentucky Derby Blame Game: Can the Son of Blame Be a Triple Crown Horse? January 22, 2015 By: Ryan Stillman twitterfacebooklinkedinemail Share: share on facebook share on twitter share on linkedin email this article II. BLAME GAME PEDIGREE THE TOP SIDE OF HIS PEDIGREE A) SIRE: BLAME Blame Game’s sire is Blame who demonstrated time and time again that he could get a distance of ground including when he won the 2010 Breeders’ Cup over the great Zenyatta. B) GRANDSIRE: ARCH Blame Game’s grandsire is the versatile horse and stallion Arch. Arch winning at Louisiana Downs Arch seemed capable of winning at just about any distance as demonstrated by his victory in the 10 furlong Super Derby. Arch is an incredibly versatile sire and his progeny have won on turf, dirt and “artificial” surfaces. They’ve also won stakes at 5 furlongs and 6 furlongs and 10 furlongs and 11 furlongs. A look at the list of top horses Arch has sired gives me the impression that a horse sired by Arch could be a multitude of different things. Arch has sired the following: – 2013 Breeders Cup Marathon winner London Bridge – South African Champion Sprinter Overachieving – English Champion Older Horse Les Arcs – Breeders Cup Classic winner Blame – Canadian Horse of the Year Arravale So it’s a wide array of possibilities that Blame Game could potentially be able to excel at based on his having Arch in his pedigree. If I had to guess though I believe the evidence on top points to Blame Game having no trouble running long. It is worth mentioning that Arch has already appeared in the pedigree of Kentucky Derby winner I’ll Have another so there already is a precedent for Arch’s name to appear in a Kentucky Derby winner’s pedigree. C.) Further Back In Pedigree Further back on the top side of Blame Game’s pedigree are names like Nijinski, Mr. Prospector, Buckpasser, Princequillo (IRE) and a plethora of other names I like to see in a classic contenders pedigree. So if I had to guess wether the top side of Blame Games pedigree would make him a good horse for the classic distances and a better horse the longer he goes I would say there are some minor question marks but it’s most likely not going to be a problem for him.
