Baffert Enters Trio For Capote

CYPRESS, CA – Trainer Bob Baffert entered a trio of 2-year-olds in the $75,000 Capote Stakes Saturday at Los Alamitos.

Scheduled for 6 1/2 furlongs and restricted to 2-year-olds, the Capote is the eighth of nine races. Post time Saturday is 1 PM. Scheduled post time for the Capote is 4:28 PM.

Two of the juveniles Baffert entered in the Capote, which is named in honor of the champion 2-year-old of 1986, are 1-start maidens.

Owned by Baoma Corporation, Enbarr finished second behind stablemate – and eventual Del Mar Futurity (G1) winner – Pinehurst in his August 1 debut. The son of Brody’s Cause and the Warrior’s Reward mare Star of Gallantry earned $14,000 for the performance in which he finished 11 1/2 lengths clear of the third-place finisher.

Rhetoric, a son of Quality Road and the Hard Spun mare Hard Not to Like, checked in third, but was moved up to second after stablemate – and recent Los Alamitos graduate – Kamui was disqualified from the runner-up spot and placed third. Owned by a partnership that includes SF Racing LLC, Starlight Racing, Madaket Stables LLC, Robert Masterson, and Stonestreet Stables as a $600,000 purchase at the 2020 Keeneland September sale, finished 3/4 of a length behind winner Forbidden Kingdom August 21. He banked $14,000.

Baffert also entered Montebello, who returns to California after finishing second in the Funny Cide Stakes for New York-breds August 27 at Saratoga. Owned by a partnership that includes SF Racing LLC, Starlight Racing, Madaket Stables LLC, Masterson, and Stonestreet Stables, the Curlin colt out of the El Corredor mare Beautiful But Blue won as the 11/10 favorite in his bow August 7 at Del Mar. He’s earned $82,000.

Olympic Legend will try to rebound for owner-breeders Lawrence Opas and Frank Sinatra and trainer Luis Mendez after trailing in the Del Mar Futurity earlier this month. The Street Boss colt out of the Mingun mare Brilliant Future has earned $28,000 in 3 starts. He graduated at Los Alamitos June 27, leading throughout at nearly 11/1.

Fascinated will go turf to dirt after earning his maiden win via disqualification going 5 furlongs at Golden Gate Fields. Owned by breeders Jason Hall and Stephen Baker and trained by Jonathan Wong, the son of Majesticperfection and the Popular mare Roll Your Eyes collected $18,000 for the victory.

Owned by trainer Edwin Alvarez, Richards the Dream graduated by a nose when 38/1 against fellow California-breds in his local debut June 27. The Richard’s Kid colt out of the Good Journey mare Shewhomustbeobeyed has banked $28,000 in 3 starts.
