Breeders' Cup Five 2020 Breeders’ Cup Longshots November 4, 2020 Vequist winning the Spinaway (Credit: NYRA) Breeders' Cup Five 2020 Breeders’ Cup Longshots November 4, 2020 By: Aaron Halterman twitterfacebooklinkedinemail Share: share on facebook share on twitter share on linkedin email this article We’ve given weekly updates on our top picks for each race heading into the 2020 Breeders’ Cup, but now let’s focus on finding longshots who could make this Breeders’ Cup very profitable. The key is finding and cashing in on horses who blow up the tote board and beat a heavy favorite. These five horses could do just that: ( Content Continues Below Ad ) 1. Vequist – Juvenile Fillies This race has a history of producing big prices. Vequist was an impressive winner in the Spinaway Stakes (G1) two starts back before losing the Frizette Stakes (G1) last time out as the heavy 4/5 favorite. She should rebound while stretching out in distance and her sire, Nyquist, won the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile (G1) in 2015 over this track. Can lightning strike again for this bloodline? 2. Big Runnuer – Turf Sprint Big Runnuer has won 3 straight coming into this wide-open event, including the Eddie D Stakes (G2) at Santa Anita Park last time out. His early speed is going to be a major factor in this race, but he has also shown that he can sit off the pace and win, too. This is one of the toughest races to handicap because several logical options have a solid chance of winning. 3. Rushie – Dirt Mile He comes into this race as the sneaky choice. His resume isn’t overly flashy, but he’s been facing some of the country’s best horses all season long. Last time out, he dropped down in class to the Pat Day Mile (G2) and won by nearly 2 lengths in impressive fashion. The distance suits him best and he should have trouble with the two-turn configuration. ( Content Continues Below Ad ) 4. Diamonds Oops – Sprint This race is so wide-open that it is hard to figure out who might actually be “value” at this point. If Diamond Oops is 8/1 or higher, he should be strongly considered based off of his impressive win over this track last time out in the Phoenix Stakes (G2). That was one of the strongest efforts of his career and should set him up nicely for this event. However, what will his price ultimately be? That is his only major question mark. 5. Arklow – Turf He could be a huge price against strong group of European horses coming over. With that said, he is entering the race in fantastic form and might have a shot to light up the tote board if the shippers don’t handle the surface. Trainer Brad Cox has several strong Breeders’ Cup horses, including big favorite Monomoy Girl in the Distaff, but he says that Arklow is the one doing the best.
