( Content Continues Below Ad ) Pink Lloyd was made a rare 1/9 morning line favorite in the five-horse field that reduced to four after the stewards scratched Dixie’s Gamble. Exiting the far outside stall under Rafael Hernandez at 1/5 odds, Pink Lloyd remained wide in the clear while Circle of Friends held a slim advantage early. Pink Lloyd ranged up three-wide in the far turn and made his bid at the top of the stretch, never exiting second gear while clearing ahead at the 1/8 pole. The Robert Tiller trainee crossed 2 lengths clear in a final time of 1:09.61 for the 6-furlong fast all weather surface. “He broke well, he did his thing,” Hernandez said. “He’s older, he knows how to win. He can come from anywhere, he just does his thing. He showed up today. He’s one of the best, he does his job. He don’t give up, never.” Malibu Secret, Not So Quiet, and Circle of Friends completed the order of finish. Pink Lloyd’s victory improved his record to 29-23-1-1 with $1,395,747 earned for owner Entourage Stable. The 8-year-old Ontario-bred Old Forester gelding has now won his debut in all 5 of his racing seasons. “This is one of the greatest sprinters that’s ever raced in Canada and I think his record speaks for itself,” Tiller said. “He really has a lot of heart, a lot of desire. He wants to do it, he loves winning and I don’t know if there will ever be another one like him… not for me, that’s for sure. “A lot of hard work at the barn, there’s a lot of details that go along with him, but when you’re standing here like this, it all works out. He’s such a champion, such a sweetheart and I love him dearly.” Pink Lloyd returned $2.50 to win. There was no place or show wagering.
