News Racing Dudes Three Stars of the Week: Tiz the Law Dazzles March 30, 2020 Derbe Glass News Racing Dudes Three Stars of the Week: Tiz the Law Dazzles March 30, 2020 By: Aaron Halterman twitterfacebooklinkedinemail Share: share on facebook share on twitter share on linkedin email this article The sport of horse racing continued to defy the odds last weekend as racing rolled on across the country, highlighted by a stellar Saturday lineup at Gulfstream Park. That card produced each of our latest Three Stars of the Week, so let’s take a look at who made the list: 1. Tiz the Law There’s no doubt who is the best east coast 3-year-old after Tiz the Law dominated his foes once again in the Florida Derby (G1). After breaking well from the gate, jockey Manny Franco kept the colt in the clear all the way around the track while stalking a slow early pace. At the top of the stretch, Tiz the Law had already drawn even with front-runners Ete Indien and Shivaree, then ran past them without being asked for his best. In the end, he won the race under wraps by 4 1/4 lengths. If the Kentucky Derby was still happening in May, then he would likely be the favorite, but we’re still a long ways away from September. Hopefully he can stay sharp. 2. Bemma’s Boy Saturday’s Pan American Stakes (G2) was expected to be another big win for Zulu Alpha; however, his Mike Maker stablemate had other things in mind. Bemma’s Boy pulled off the upset by using a big kick down the lane to nip Zulu Alpha at the wire. After stalking the pace throughout, Florent Geroux got Bemma’s Boy to the outside down the lane, where he began rolling with a sustained rally. Nearing the wire, the big favorite Zulu Alpha had just edged clear of the front-running Current, but he could not hold off Bemma’s Boy. This upset victory will likely lead to more big races in his future, especially at the 1 1/2-mile distance. 3. Social Paranoia This colt raced in a lot of the big 3-year-old turf races last year, running well in most of them, but he was unable to take home a big victory. That changed when he made his 4-year-old debut in the Appleton Stakes (G3), where he came home a winner by 1 1/4 lengths. He was known as front-runner last year, but on Saturday, he came with a last-to-first rally for the victory. His may have been the most visually impressive effort of the day and could be the start of a big year for this rapidly-improving horse.
