News Racing Dudes Three Stars of the Week: Leucothea Shines in Desi Arnaz Stakes November 11, 2019 News Racing Dudes Three Stars of the Week: Leucothea Shines in Desi Arnaz Stakes November 11, 2019 By: Aaron Halterman twitterfacebooklinkedinemail Share: share on facebook share on twitter share on linkedin email this article The week after the Breeders’ Cup can sometimes be a bit slow; however, Del Mar, Aqueduct, and Churchill Downs made sure to give us plenty to talk about. There were three horses that stood out above them all, which we have selected as our latest Three Stars of the Week: 1. Leucothea When at her best, this Peter Miller trained filly can be tough to beat. She proved that to be the case once again in Sunday’s Desi Arnaz Stakes at Del Mar, destroying her competition by 3 1/2-lengths. After stalking the early pace up the backside, she took control approaching the turn, before kicking clear for the easy victory. A win like this will mean more starts in stakes races as she progresses towards her 3-year-old season. 2. Curlin’s Honor The Mark Casse trained Curlin’s Honor has been close to winning some big race this season; however, he has come up short several times. He was a bridesmaids no more last Saturday, taking home the Artie Schiller Stakes at Aqueduct. After a poor start, he was shuffled back early, sitting next to last up the back side. He made a huge move on the turn, though, picking off horses one by one. In the end, his sustained run was just enough to get past Caribou Club by a neck at the wire. It was good to see this son of Curlin pick up a nice stakes victory, which could lead to more in the future. 3. Mr Dumas The Commonwealth Stakes (G3) at Churchill Downs was the lone graded stakes of the weekend, which featured a solid field of 11 horses. In the end, it was Mr Dumas who got the job done, winning the race by a half-length over Tracksmith. The victory was his third win in his last four starts, while serving as his first stakes triumph. He won’t be running anywhere like Grand National anytime soon, however, I’m sure he will be pointed towards more stakes events on the turf after this impressive victory.
