Race Recaps Fair Maiden Crushes Catch A Glimpse August 17, 2019 Race Recaps Fair Maiden Crushes Catch A Glimpse August 17, 2019 By: Curtis "Magic" Kalleward twitteremail Share: share on facebook share on twitter share on linkedin email this article TORONTO, ON – Godolphin’s homebred Fair Maiden made her first turf steps count impressive when she drew away impressively in the stretch to crush Saturday’s $100,000 Catch A Glimpse Stakes at Woodbine. ( Content Continues Below Ad ) Breaking from post 2 under Emma-Jayne Wilson at 3/1 odds, Fair Maiden watched as the 6/5 favorite Fast Scene tore off to a lengthy early lead. After chasing from second through fractions of :22.27 and :45.51, Fair Maiden began to draw near. Taking command at the 1/8 pole, Fair Maiden immediately began widening her advantage and kicked away convincingly in the stretch. The Eoin Harty trainee crossed under a hand ride 7 1/2 lengths ahead in a final time of 1:15.64 over the yielding turf course. “She’s always shown a lot precosity from day one,” Harty said. “She’s always shown she was a little bit better than the rest of them, but you never know until you actually run them. I think she’s something special. She was very impressive breaking her maiden against the boys and I felt confident today that I would have very much a fighting chance.“ After getting bumped at the start, Western Taffy fought gamely in the stretch to hold of a rallying Saratoga Vision for second by a 1/2-length. Fast Scene faded in the stretch to finish fourth ahead of Muskoka Dancer, while The Good Witch and Take Charge Eh completed the order of finish. Fair Maiden’s win was her second straight after breaking her maiden going 5 furlongs over Arlington’s synthetic course on July 21. The juvenile daughter of Street Boss has now earned $69,210. “She is all class,” Wilson said. “To have a juvenile come from Arlington, another racetrack, and take it all in as professional as she did today is always impressive.” Fair Maiden returned $8.20 to win, $4.30 to place, and $2.70 to show. Western Taffy brought back $4.20 to place and $3 to show, while Saratoga Vision paid $5.10 to show.
