Pink Lloyd Awesome in Jacques Cartier

TORONTO, ON –  Pink Lloyd proved his favoritism in Saturday’s Jacques Cartier Stakes (G3) at Woodbine. With his win here today, the Canadian bred son of Old Forester picked up his 17th career win in the first start of his seven-year-old campaign and his third consecutive Jacques Cartier Stakes win.

Yorktown, Wyatt’s Town, and Extravagant Kid all broke well and went straight to the front. Yorktown got the best of the early leaders and claimed sole possession of the lead while the other two settled in close behind. The 2-1 post time favorite, Pink Lloyd, sat just behind the leaders in fourth and settled in well as they moved around the track.

Around the turn, Wyatt’s Town and Extravagant Kid picked it up and drew even with Yorktown by the top of the stretch. Pink Lloyd also made his move and shot through a gap past the leaders and into the clear. Once he had space, the race was as good as over as Pink Lloyd cruised to an easy victory.  Extravagant Kid battled hard and nearly kept up with Pink Lloyd but eventually settled for second.  Curlin’s Honor made a great late run to get up for third and Glacier finished fourth.

“He’s carrying the weight and he broke good today,” noted Canadian Horse Racing Hall of Fame trainer Robert Tiller. “We got a big break today from the starting gate – they’ve done a lot of work with him – so everything went well today.”

Pink Lloyd returned $6.10 to win, $4.10 to place, and $2.90 to show. Extravagant Kid brought back $3.50 to place and $3.20 to show, while Curlin’s Honor paid $4.90 to show.
