Record 255 Breeders’ Cup Pre-Entries Set Stage for 2026 World Championships at Keeneland

Forever Young, Sovereignty headline star-studded lineup featuring 79 international contenders

The 2026 Breeders’ Cup World Championships are shaping up to be one for the record books, with an all-time high 255 pre-entries representing 222 individual horses announced for the October 30-31 event at Keeneland Race Course in Lexington, Kentucky.

The record-breaking lineup includes 79 international contenders, the second-highest total in Breeders’ Cup history, with horses bred in 10 countries across six continents. More than $34 million in purses and awards will be on the line across 14 Grade 1 championship races.

Fans can view the official 2026 Breeders’ Cup Pre-Entries, featuring the complete list of horses entered across all 14 championship races, including their race preferences.

Forever Young Headlines Loaded Breeders’ Cup Classic

The $7 million Breeders’ Cup Classic (G1) once again takes center stage, with defending champion Forever Young (JPN) looking to become just the second horse to win the race in consecutive years, joining Tiznow (2000-01).

The Japanese superstar made history with his victory at Del Mar in 2025 and has continued his impressive form this season, winning the Saudi Cup (G1) and Jockey Club Gold Cup (G1).

Among the 11 Classic pre-entries is reigning Horse of the Year Sovereignty, whose résumé includes victories in the 2025 Kentucky Derby, Belmont Stakes, Travers Stakes, and this year’s Whitney Stakes.

Other major contenders include Pacific Classic winner Knightsbridge, Dubai World Cup and Stephen Foster winner Magnitude, and millionaire Phileas Fogg.

A talented group of 3-year-olds also looks to make an impact, led by Kentucky Derby and Belmont Stakes winner Golden Tempo, Preakness winner Napoleon Solo, Pennsylvania Derby winner The Puma, and Blue Grass Stakes winner Further Ado.

The Classic will conclude Saturday’s championship program on October 31, with an official post time of 6:16 p.m. ET.
