Race Recaps Red Ruby Romps in the G3 Delaware Oaks July 7, 2018 Race Recaps Red Ruby Romps in the G3 Delaware Oaks July 7, 2018 By: Brandon 'B$' Bauer twitteremail Share: share on facebook share on twitter share on linkedin email this article WILMINGTON, DE – Red Ruby ran a gem of a race to win Saturday’s Grade 3, $300,000 Delaware Oaks at Delaware Park. The three-year-old daughter of Tiznow became a multiple graded stakes winner with her victory today with her second consecutive graded stakes victory following her win in the G2 Black-Eyed Susan in May. As the horses broke at the start, it was Prospective Lady that wanted the early lead, however in order to get it, she had to contend with the 1-2 favorite Red Ruby who was also sent to the front. Red Ruby eventually gave up the lead to Prospective Lady and sat just off the pace with Coach Rocks and Takechargedelilah close behind. The early fractions came in at :23.3 and :47.1. Just before they hit the second turn, jockey Paco Lopez let Red Ruby run free – and run she did. Red Ruby flew to the front and quickly put more and more distance between herself and the rest of the field. She finished in the middle of the track 13 lengths clear of Coach Rocks in second. Mo Shopping finished third in a photo with Blue Union Rags. “I think we came into this race pretty confident,” said trainer Kellyn Gorder. “We came in four days before the race. We jogged her the first day and galloped her the next couple of days. She was great on the racetrack, so I was not concerned about her not handling the track. She was a little antsy before the race. She is not a nervous type, but she is the kind that just wants to get it on. She is not the kind that likes to wait around in the post parade and other the stuff. Once she got in the gate, she was fine. She broke well and I figured she would be forwardly placed today. The Alabama has been our target and the farther she goes the better.” Red Ruby returned $3.20 to win, $2.20 to place, and $2.10 to show. Coach Rocks brought back $2.80 to place and $2.20 to show, while Mo Shopping paid $4.20 to show.
