News Racing Dudes Three Stars of the Week: Dr. Dorr Shines in Californian April 30, 2018 News Racing Dudes Three Stars of the Week: Dr. Dorr Shines in Californian April 30, 2018 By: Aaron Halterman twitterfacebooklinkedinemail Share: share on facebook share on twitter share on linkedin email this article We are now less than a week away from the 144th Kentucky Derby! However, we have some business to attend to before we look forward. This past weekend had a light schedule of stakes races once again, but we still saw a couple of solid performances. Let’s check out our latest Three Stars of the Week after exciting action at Santa Anita and Belmont Park. 1. Dr. Dorr Just one week before trainer Bob Baffert sends out Justify as the Kentucky Derby favorite, he unleashed another rising star in Dr. Dorr. A former workout parter for Justify, Dr. Dorr is beginning to make his own legacy after crushing his competition in the Grade 2 Californian Stakes last Saturday. The win made it three in a row for the son of Lookin At Lucky and will likely propel him into the Grade 1 Hollywood Gold Cup at Santa Anita. He could become a major player in the Californian older male division if he continues to progress. 2. Blind Ambition This colt has always shown a lot of ability but hasn’t been able to show up with consistent races. Last Saturday was one of his good days, though, as he shot to the front in the $125,000 Elusive Quality Stakes and never looked back, cruising to a 2-length victory. With his fifth victory in 12 lifetime starts, this was easily the best win of his career because the field was very tough. He could run next at Belmont Park in the Grade 3 Jaipur Invitational Stakes, the same race in which Disco Partner set a world record last year. 3. Queen Blossom It had been nearly two and a half years since Queen Blossom last found the winners circle, but she changed all that on Saturday with a win in the Grade 3 Santa Barbara Stakes at Santa Anita. The 5-year-old mare saved ground early while sitting in third before making an inside bid for the lead in the stretch. Once in front, she was able to hold off a late challenge from Causeofcommotion to win the race by a 1/2-length. It’s obvious that the race’s long distance helped her, and you can expect her connections to find similar races to enter down the road.
