Fatale Bere Wins G3 Providencia Stakes with Surprising Late Burst of Speed

ARCADIA, CA –  Fatale Bere showed an impressive late burst in Saturday’s Grade 3, $150,000 Providencia Stakes at Santa Anita. Her victory here marks her first career stakes victory and came in her first start of 2018, two races off her fifth-place finish in the Breeder’s Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf last November.

Ms Bad Behavior was the early pace of the race, setting fractions of :23.75, :47.78, 1:12.34, and 1:35. 96, but Fatale Bere was never far behind. Around the final turn, Fatale Bere broke free of Ms Bad Behavior and was able to hold off the rest of the field to win the race by 1 1/2 lengths. The 2-1 morning line favorite Paved looked for a second like she would step up to challenge Fatale Bere down the stretch, however, both Ms Bad Behavior and Paved failed to gain any ground and settled for second and third place consecutively. Pulpit Rider completed the superfecta finishing fourth.

Joel Rosario, the jockey aboard Fatale Bere, said after the race, “I just found a good spot, had (her) relax and let the horse do the rest. (Fatale Bere) started to pick it up on the turn and had a great burst of speed to overtake the other two.”

This was Rosario’s first time aboard Fatale Bere, but  Trainer Leonard Powell seemed pleased with the way he rode her. Powell said after the race, “Joel did a great job by getting her to relax and when shes like that she’s got a huge turn of foot.”

Fatale Bere returned $17.80 to win, $7.80 to place, and $4.00 to show. Ms Bad Behavior brought back $3.60 to place and $2.40 to show, while Paved paid $2.40 to show.
