Power Rankings

The Power Rankings feature teams’ odds to win the Triple Crown Fantasy League, as well as an update on every horse on each team. Here we go:

1. Kelby/Evil Steveil (4/1)

• Fierceness – The Breeders’ Cup Juvenile (G1) winner is the top contender for the Kentucky Derby (G1) heading into 2024.
• Catching Freedom – He opened up the league with a solid win in the Smarty Jones Stakes.
• Hall of Fame – He ran well on debut and should improve in his second start.
• Snead – This horse was a solid second last time out in the Gun Runner Stakes at Fair Grounds.
• Just Steel – He opened up the season with a nice second in the Smarty Jones Stakes.

2. Actual Double Ds (Paul “Free Bears” Withrow) (9/2) 

• Knightsbridge – This horse was a solid debut winner at Churchill Downs on November 4 but hasn’t returned to the worktab since.
• Track Phantom – He pulled off an impressive upset last time out in the Gun Runner Stakes.
• Forever Young – This horse will take the Japanese Road to the Kentucky Derby.
• Eagles Flight – The half-brother of Flightline hasn’t worked since December 15.
• Otello – He kicked off the season with a solid win in the Mucho Macho Man Stakes.

3. Double Ds (Doc Tang and Doc Miranda) (5/1)

• Nysos – This Bob Baffert trainee is a perfect 2 for 2 entering 2024.
• The Wine Steward – He’s been good in all 4 starts, including a runner-up in the Breeders’ Futurity (G1), but he hasn’t been seen since October.
• Carbone – He was a sharp winner in a recent Oaklawn Park allowance race.
• Moonlight – He has only 1 win but has run well in 2 stakes tries.
• Amante Bianco – This horse will take the Japanese Road to the Kentucky Derby.

4. Jon White and Ryan Stillman (6/1) 

• Nash – He was a fairly disappointing third in the Gun Runner Stakes.
• Drum Roll Please – He picked out a nice win in the Jerome Stakes at Aqueduct.
• Lightline – He was a fast-closing second in a recent Oaklawn Park allowance race.
• El Magnifico – He’s still a maiden after running second in a recent Fair Grounds race.
• Born Noble – This horse looks like he could be a star after an impressive debut win at Gulfstream Park.

5. Geist (6/1) 

• Muth – The Breeders’ Cup Juvenile (G1) runner-up kicked off his 2024 season with a win in the San Vicente Stakes (G2).
• Air of Defiance – This horse was a solid maiden winner but has not worked since November 3.
• Stronghold – He was a tough-luck second last time out in the Los Alamitos Futurity (G2).
• Stretch Ride – He was third last time out in the Kentucky Jockey Club Stakes (G2).
• Moonlit Sonata – He struggled out of the gate, then struggled to a 4th-place finish in the San Vicente Stakes (G2).

6. Aaron Halterman (8/1)

• El Capi – His debut was impressive enough to think that a stakes race will be next for him.
• Merit – He was impressive on debut but hasn’t worked since December 9.
• Legalize – He looked solid in a nice sprint victory in the Sugar Bowl Stakes.
• Wynstock – This horse upset the field with a hard-fought victory in the Los Alamitos Futurity (G2).
• Who Dey – This Ohio-bred is a perfect 4 for 4 but hasn’t been seen since November 25.

7. Shotty and Davey (10/1)

• Locked – He leads the defending Triple Crown Fantasy League champs into their title defense after running third in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile (G1).
• Liberal Arts – He won the Street Sense Stakes (G3) on October 29 and returned to the work tab on January 4.
• Otto the Conqueror – He fought hard to win the Remington Springboard Mile in his last start.
• Imperial Gun – The newest member of the team broke his maiden on New Year’s Eve at Oaklawn Park.
• Real Men Violin – He finished second last time out in the Kentucky Jockey Club Stakes (G2).

8. The Magic Mike Show (10/1) 

• Parchment Party – The Bill Mott trainee has looked sharp with 2 straight victories to kick off his career but hasn’t been seen since December 16.
• Honor Marie – The Kentucky Jockey Club Stakes (G2) winner is training at Fair Grounds for his return.
• Change of Command – He picked up 5 points for the team in a solid allowance victory at Gulfstream Park.
• Rapoport – This maiden was working well for his next start but was last seen December 16.
• First World War – He was a solid second in the Mucho Macho Man Stakes to kick off his season.

9. Jared Welch (12/1)

• Leslie’s Rose – She looked good on debut; however, she’s a filly in a Triple Crown Fantasy League, which will eventually become problematic. She runs in an allowance Thursday at Gulfstream Park.
• Coach Prime – He was a disappointing third last time out in the Los Alamitos Futurity (G2).
• Timberlake – He disappointed in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile (G1), finishing 4th.
• Imagination – He looked solid in a maiden special weight score at Santa Anita to kick off his 2024.
• Noted – This horse has been solid on turf, but it’s questionable if they’ll put him back on dirt.

10. Dan Waite and Michael Ossen (15/1)

• Sierra Leone – He was a solid second in the Remsen Stakes (G2).
• Heartland – He dazzled on debut in July but has been on the sidelines since then.
• Rhyme Schemes – The Saratoga Special Stakes (G2) winner has been on the sidelines with an injury since that August race.
• Rocketeer – He looked good on debut but hasn’t been seen since October.
• Maymun – This unraced Bob Baffert trainee recently resumed workouts.

11. Vinny Blond (20/1)

• Dornoch – The full brother of Kentucky Derby winner Mage looked solid in a gritty Remsen Stakes (G2) victory.
• Pilot Commander – This solid debut winner was a distant second in the San Vicente Stakes (G2).
• New King – His debut race was not good at Santa Anita Park.
• Scatify – His debut win at Los Alamitos was eye-catching.
• Princetown – He did not look good at all in his debut race at Gulfstream Park, but he’ll get another chance there this Saturday.
