Race Recaps Untamed Domain Necks Out the Win in G2 Summer September 17, 2017 Race Recaps Untamed Domain Necks Out the Win in G2 Summer September 17, 2017 By: Curtis "Magic" Kalleward twitteremail Share: share on facebook share on twitter share on linkedin email this article TORONTO, ON – West Point Thoroughbreds’ Untamed Domain used a closing burst to get up just in time, winning Sunday’s Grade 2, $200,000 Summer at Woodbine Racetrack. The Summer is a Breeders’ Cup “Win and You’re In” event, with Untamed Domain receiving an automatic berth in the $1 million Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf at Del Mar on Friday, November 3. Off slowly under jockey Joe Bravo and wearing blinkers for the first time, Untamed Domain settled near the back on the inside and waited to make his move while El Dulce set early splits of :23.89, :47.53, and 1:11.65. Beginning to advance at the 7/16 pole, Untamed Domain angled to the outside at the top of the stretch, lunged inward past the 1/4 pole, then continued to rally, getting up just in time to pass Hemp Hemp Hurray by a neck. The Graham Motion trainee’s final time for the mile-long turf race was 1:34.73. “The whole puzzle really came together today,” Bravo said. “Graham did a great job by putting the blinkers on for the first time.” Hemp Hemp Hurray tracked El Dulce closely throughout and initially held the lead before being overtaken in the final steps. Admiralty Pier used a stalking trip to take third, 3/4 of a length behind the winner. Count Alexander was a neck in front of El Dulce, with Follow My Lead, Differential, and Empirically completed the order of finish. The win marked Untamed Domain’s second in four starts. After breaking his maiden at Saratoga on July 22, the son of Animal Kingdom finished third in the Grade 3 With Anticipation. “He’s a very big horse that is just learning, and my main thing was just to get him plenty of room and keep him out of trouble turning for home,” said Bravo.” I had to swing three-wide, and he just leveled off so beautifully. Graham knew what he had; he knows he has a special horse.” Untamed Domain returned $8.00 to win, $4.40 to place, and $2.90 to show. Hemp Hemp Hurray brought back $3.10 to place and $2.60 to show, while Admiralty Pier paid $3.80 to show.
