News Cheltenham Festival Provides International Flare March 10, 2016 News Cheltenham Festival Provides International Flare March 10, 2016 By: Aaron Halterman twitterfacebooklinkedinemail Share: share on facebook share on twitter share on linkedin email this article It’s that time of year again as March always signals the beginning of the Cheltenham Festival. The Festival is a meeting in the National Hunt racing calendar that takes place in the United Kingdom. It is an event where many of the best British and Irish trained horses race against each other which makes it one of the most competitive meets in the world. Emma Spencer on 888sport covers this great event extensively and features several video previews including race analysis and trainer interviews. The Cheltenham Festival features many Grade I races including the Cheltenham Gold Cup, Champion Hurdle, Queen Mother Champion Chase and World Hurdle. The meet definitely brings the gamblers out as large amounts of money are gambled during Cheltenham Festival week with the competition and betting fields being quite large. Cheltenham is also noted for its amazing atmosphere, most notably the “Cheltenham roar”, which refers to the thunderous applause and noise that the crowd generates as the starter signals the beginning of the first race of the festival. More than 230,000 people attend the festival every year and 250 million pounds are expected to be bet during the festival. The 2016 Gold Cup is one of the premier races of the Cheltenham Festival. Every March the race is a spectacle for all to see, and it always provides bettors with several well priced horses to choose from. Last year Coneygree was the winner of the Gold Cup, and was the first “novice chaser” to win the race in more than 40 years. The Gold Cup is run over three miles and two furlongs on the Cheltenham Racecourse. In past years Paul Nicholls has been the man to beat, however that trend has changed over the past few years. If you get the chance, be sure to check out this great display of racing. If you want to get more in depth with your handicapping of the chasers you can check out some of the Gold Cup trial races. Those races include: The Betfair Chase, The Charlie Hall Chase, The Hennessy Gold Cup, The King George Chase, The Lexus Chase, The Argento Chase, The Irish Hennessy Gold Cup, and The Betfair Denman Chase. Good luck to every one as they begin to handicap for the great race!
