2026 Matt Winn Stakes Preview | Can Further Ado Bounce Back After the Derby?

2026 Matt Winn Stakes Preview | Can Further Ado Bounce Back After the Derby?

The road to the summer classics continues this Sunday at Churchill Downs with the Grade 3 Matt Winn Stakes, a $500,000 test for 3-year-olds going 1 1/16 miles.

Headlining the field is Further Ado, the Blue Grass Stakes winner who entered the Kentucky Derby as one of the favorites but never fired, finishing 11th. Now trainer Brad Cox brings him back to Churchill Downs looking for redemption and a chance to re-establish himself among the division’s elite.

The Matt Winn has become an important launching pad for late-developing sophomores, and this year’s edition features a competitive cast of eight runners.
